The 75% who say they would pay more for renewable energy to help combat global warming are full of it. They could do that right now but they aren't, which is why renewables need government subsidies to survive. Same with? the auto emissions standards. If consumers wanted to pay more for lower emissions, the auto industry would be happy to make that happen. But they don't want that, so the government has to step in and make it happen by force.

Somehow this comment disappeared, so I'm reposting it. We also have the highest corporate taxes in the world. Corporations not only pay Fed. corporate tax of 35% to 41.6%, but also pay state tax, consumption tax, unemployment tax, excise tax, and many other specialized taxes which can add to the cost of a product as? much as 75%. All of this contributes to the cost of products built here which is why we are losing manufacturing to other countries. Didn't even mention regulations..

Which is why we are losing so much manufacturing to other country in spite of the rhetoric you here that Corporations are doing it from greed. From a companies perspective; they pay corporate tax, materials mid production tax, tax on equipment, payroll tax, insurance, unemployment tax, corporate tax ,etc...

Out taxes are a bit diffrent here which is very decieving and drives some of us that really understand the process nuts. Where as you pay a flat VAT, we pay a sales tax. The problem is that a single product may be taxed many times before you actually purchase it. The price of? some products may have 20%-30% before you pay the tax for consumption. On top of that we have our wonderful sin taxes. I was recently in NYC where cigarettes are $16.00 a pack, $15 of which is tax.
